include antiquities and art from Southeast Asia,
China, India and the Middle East; ethnographic
Oceanic material culture from New Guinea and the Pacific Islands;
Australian Aboriginal art and artefacts and fine Specimens
of Natural History.
Highlights
include; 17th Century bronze sculpture from Tibet; 10th
- 12th Century Indian sculpture, Early sculpture and bronze from
Burma; Gandharan antiquities dating to 200AD; important 12th -
13th Century Khmer sculpture, Tang, Han, Ming and Ching Dynasty
art and antiquities from China.
Our
December 2009 auction finished last year with positive results.
Although buyers remained cautious we experienced solid
buyer participation. We are also delighted that
our Natural History section of our auctions is gathering momentum
and we look forward to solid growth in this area.
Sales
include; a 2nd Century AD Gandharan Sculpture (over $25,000);
a Tang Dynasty ceramic horse from China (over $8,300), an early
southeast Queensland shield (over $4,500), a 16th Century sculpture
of a reclining Buddha from Laos (over $3,500), a 19th Century
Bronze sculpture of Buddha from Tibet (over $3,500), an early
20th Century overmodeled ancestor scull from New Guinea (over
$3,100); and an early 20th Century Batak marionette head (over
$2,900). A full Prices
Realised Report is available from our website.
These
results are encouraging and indicate a return of buyers
and renewed buoyancy in the market for good quality or important
works of art at our auctions.
We
continue to receive favourable comment from our clients
regarding our extended three weeks of pre-auction viewings.
This creates a far more enjoyable, relaxed viewing atmosphere
and allows a high level of attendance. Prospective
buyers are no longer rushed into decisions and have ample time
to investigate carefully the material on offer.
Our
innovative and interactive CD catalogue, (also
available in full colour hard copy), continues
to be very well received. This innovation has been tremendously
beneficial for our clients especially those who are unable
to attend pre-auction viewings. Buyers are able to access multiple,
high quality images of every Lot. Buyers can now bid in real time
via the internet, telephone and via Absentee Bid from anywhere
in the world and from the comfort of their own homes.
The
catalogue for our forthcoming auction will be available soon.
Should you require a full colour printed copy,
